EVENTS & ACTIVITIES - JULY 2021

VAN MAHOTSAV

Day 1- POT DECORATION
Trees are our natural friends and caretakers. The survival of the human race wouldn’t have been possible without trees. It has been serving mankind since time immemorial with its shade and cover, food and livelihood resources and trees play a vital role in sustaining life on the planet.
Van Mahotsav, a week-long festival of tree planting is organized every year in the first week of July across India when millions of trees are planted. In a bid to raise awareness about the importance of trees and encourage students to plant more of them, teachers organized VAN MAHOTSAV WEEK. Students understood the significance of the festival through story and learnt how they can reuse plastic bottles or any unused pots for plantation just by decorating it.

Day 2-SEED BALLS DISPERSAL
“Plant a tree, grow a flower – let’s give Mother Earth to give them back her power.”
Vegetation and green cover are significant to our eco-system and fundamental natural resources, seeing as how they produce oxygen, which is essential for the existence and survival of nearly every species on this planet. One way to protect these resources is through an adaptation called exploding seed pods. Seed balls are uniquely made to be dispersed off in a bit of a controlled manner and give life to new plants. The seed is, therefore, pre-planted and can be sown by depositing the seed ball anywhere as long as the species can survive there. The wrapping mixture keeps the seed safe until it can properly germinate.
Today, students made seed balls using soil and seeds (blackberry seeds or mango seeds) and learned a new method of germination of seeds.

Doctor's Day

Doctors are bestowed with the eye to see and treat weakness in mankind. Only they are blessed with the magical powers to treat a life, to bring health into our lives and to be there with us when we have lost all the hopes. They always put their patients first and do their best to gift health to their patients.
In order to thank and salute the global heroes who emerged in white-coat labs to save humankind from the deadly virus and for letting us have the opportunity to lead a healthy and risk-free life! Our society owes them a lot!
On this day GGS thanks them for their dedicated service.

Day 3 - TERRARIUM MAKING
Gardening is the greatest tonic and therapy a human being can have. It is a love song, a duet between a human being and Mother Nature. Even if you have only a tiny piece of earth, you can create something beautiful, which we all have a great need for.
Terrariums are a great introductory gardening activity for kids. These are a great craft for kids because they are fun in all stages of development. Picking out plants, containers and little figurines to go inside can be just as fun as making the kid-friendly terrarium and watching it grow!
Today, students made terrarium using glass, pebbles, sand, water and money plant. It was a great experience for them as they learned modern way of gardening.

Day 4 - TREE COLLAGE
Trees are an important part of every community. Our streets, parks, playgrounds and backyards are lined with trees that create a peaceful, aesthetically pleasing environment. Trees provide such a huge range of benefits for people, the local wildlife, the environment, and the planet’s future. They are the lungs of the world, the homes of millions of creatures, and an essential part of how the environment regulates and cleans itself.
There are so many reasons why trees matter and why they are awesome. Their value continues to increase and more benefits of trees are being discovered as their role expands to satisfy the needs created by our modern lifestyles. Today, students made a Tree Collage by using the materials we get from it. They understood the importance of trees in human life through the activity.

Day 5 - POSTER MAKING, SLOGAN WRITING AND PLANTATION
"Let's nurture the nature so that we can have better future."
Trees play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance but their depleting number has become a point of concern. Van Mahotsav is an annual tree planting movement in India which initially began in 1950. It has gained significant importance every year. In an earnest attempt to lend a green touch to the environment and tell the students about significance of the trees for humans, “POSTER MAKING and SLOGAN WRITING” activity was organized for them. The students made beautiful posters and wrote inspiring slogans. The aim of the activity was to strengthen the bond between the plants and the students and to sensitize the students about their role in conserving the trees.
Teachers concluded the celebration by planting trees and by taking a pledge that being citizen of this country they will not only grow the trees but also take care and protect them. The celebration was an ideal opportunity to instill the value of social responsibility towards safeguarding trees.

SCIENCE EXPERIMENT- U.K.G.

SCIENCE EXPERIMENT :
The Teachers of UKG conducted an experiment making it a fun- activity at the same time being educative.
The Teachers at first introduced the experiment as a fun activity by asking the kids to collect some items like:
Teaspoon
Two glasses
Two teaspoons of salt
Two lemons
A bottle of water
Experiment :
1. The kids were told to fill 2/3 of each glass with water.
2 . Then two spoons salt to be added into one glass and stirred.
3. Then one lime each was put into each glass of water.
4. Kids were asked to observe both glasses.
Discussion :
The Teachers get into a very interesting discussion. The students are first asked to share their observations. The kids said that the glass with salty solution has the lemon floating while the glass with pure water is found with the lemon sunk down. Kids clap for themselves.
Scientific Explanation:
The Teachers explain:
Lemon has higher density ( weight) than water so it sinks in pure water but when salt is added to water the density of water increases and when the density of salt water becomes equal to that of lemon , the lemon floats in water.
Kids are so glad to learn the real reason of the lemon sinking in salted water and promised to share it with their family and friends.
