EVENTS & ACTIVITIES - JUNE 2021

World Environment Day

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 annually across the globe to mark the importance of nature and environment. It is celebrated to tell people that nature should not be taken for granted and must be respected and acknowledge everything that the environment has given us and to take the pledge that we will protect it. India too has seen its fair share of environmental movements that aim to create awareness about nature and protect the abundant flora and fauna. The theme for this year's World Environment Day is 'Ecosystem Restoration'.
We all remembered "The Chipko movement", a non-violent social and ecological agitation in rural India during the 1970s, aimed at protecting trees and forests that were slated for government-backed logging. The environmentalist behind this movement was Sunderlal Bahuguna.
A small tribute by our Glorians to the man of the earth, who strove all his life to save it.
